ATTENDANCE INITIATIVE STARTING ON MONDAY 13TH JANUARY The Government target for attendance is 95%. We are introducing an attendance initiative to help improve our overall attendance. All children who have a weekly attendance of 100% (with no late marks) will be entered into a weekly prize draw. All children who receive 100% will also be entered into a Grand Prize Draw every half term (the more weekly 100%’s your child achieves, the more entries they will have into the Grand Prize Draw). If your child is sick in school, we will telephone to advise you but unless your child continues to be sick or is feeling unwell, you will not be required to collect your child from school. The 48 hour rule no longer applies and your child will be welcome back into school the next day if the sickness has stopped. New Government legislation has stated that as from September 2013 ‘Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence in term time’. All holidays will now be unauthorised and this will only be an issue if your child’s overall attendance is a concern to school. At this point the Local Authority could impose a penalty. Although holidays will not be authorised, please continue to inform us about reasons for your child’s absences. If your child is absent and you have not contacted school, a member of the office staff or your child’s class teacher will contact you to find out why your child is absent. Thank you for your support in helping us to achieve fantastic attendance at Westerhope!
