Number bonds to 100 - Beat the Teacher!
It is very important to be able to quickly work out our number bonds to 10 and 100. We've practised this a lot this week. See how many points you can score and remember to do it again and again so that you are using new numbers each time. I've just done it and I scored 30/30! Have a go at beating that.... :D
We have really enjoyed learning about the rule of law and democracy in our country. Here is a video you could watch about the Houses of Parliament. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/30880972
24.4.17 8x tables
Today Class 7 worked extremely hard on their 8x tables. We represented them in different ways, chanted them and read and solved problems using them. We loved singing along to this 8x tables video. 28.2.17 Nouns, verbs, adjectives or adverbs?
Today we had a very interesting and lively discussion about the different types of words. In groups, Class 7 sorted a range of words and gave reasons to justify their decisions. We came to the conclusion that some words can be in more than one word group but it depends on how it is used in the sentence. Excellent work today Class 7!
Can you have a go at this word sorting game to blast the rocket?
http://www.bigbrownbear.co.uk/demo/rocket.htm

17.2.17 Happy Half Term everyone!!!
You have worked incredibly hard this half term and I am so proud of all of you. Have a wonderful week off and get some rest so you are ready to start again on Monday 27th! I will be updating the website a few times throughout the week (perhaps with photos of Alfie the Bunny on his holidays...!) so keep an eye out..
I have not set any holiday homework but it would be great if you could read lots and practise high frequency spellings and your times tables. Use the website for ideas about any other learning you could do when you have the time.
Most of all, have fun!
17.2.17 Thank you so much to everyone who was able to come in and read the children's brilliant traditional tales. It was lovely to have you in and Class 7 thoroughly enjoyed sharing their work with you :)
Choose your own homework…
I have been really impressed with the brilliant homework that you have produced so far in Year 3 so well done! For the rest of this half term, it is up to you to decide what your homework is…! On our Class Page on the website, I regularly upload things we have been doing in class, such as pictures, links to fun learning websites and different activities you can try at home. I would love you to check this out as often as you like. This way, you will be continuing your learning at home. Share your new skills and knowledge with your family – see if you can teach someone something or even challenge them to a times tables competition on Hit the Button!
Here are some of the things that are on our Class Page that I would love you to have a go at:
It is up to you how you use your homework book for the next few weeks. If you choose to leave it blank that is fine. However if you want to use it to make notes, record your Hit the Button challenge times or competitions with your family, write about a book you are enjoying, practise your spellings, make up a story (the list is endless)… then I would love to see what you’re up to at any time. There will also be stickers!
Have fun choosing your homework and directing your own learning! J
16.2.17 Science - Food groups
In Science we have been recapping the different groups of food.
Have a go at playing these games to see if you can group the foods!

15.2.17 A Poem to be Read Silently - Can you practise reading the poem we have been working on with expression and at a good pace?
It was so silent that I heard
my thoughts rustle
like leaves in a paper bag…
It was so peaceful that I heard
the trees ease off
their coats of bark…
It was so still that I felt
a raindrop’s grin
as it tickled the window pane…
It was so silent that I heard
a page in this book
whisper to its neighbour,
“Look, he’s peering at us again…”
It was so quiet that I sensed
a smile crack
the face of a stranger…
It was so hushed that I heard
the morning earth roll over
in its sleep and doze
for five minutes more…
15.2.17 Maths
Following on from our Maths test today, can you have a go at these problems?
You have 4 digit cards and you must use each one once only per question. Can you make two 2-digit numbers that add together to make 100? Think of strategies to do this quickly...
a) 5 4 4 6
b) 3 7 2 8
c) 6 8 2 3
Can you make some challenges for me? Check that it is possible to make 100 with those numbers first!
14.2.17 Invite to come and read Class 7's amazing traditional tales!
Class 7 have been extremely busy writing their own traditional tales. The stories they have produced are absolutely brilliant and I am very proud of all the hard work they have put into them. I would love to invite you in to read your child’s story yourself!
If you would like to come and see your child’s English work, then the classroom will be open for this after school (3:15pm) on Thursday or Friday this week (16th or 17th). If you are unable to do so then but would still like to read your child’s story then please speak to me to arrange something.
Thank you,
Miss Strachan

Class 7 loved this game of number and strategy today. As you can see, it was a very intense lesson..! Why not play this with someone at home and see if you can beat them :)
Here is the link to the video that we watched http://nrich.maths.org/1216
14.2.17 Stonehenge theories....

Here is the link we watched today http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/stonehenge/schools/education-film/# maybe you could rewatch it and write up your conclusion... You can't be wrong because not even the experts know for sure!
13.2.17 Tens Frames
Today in Maths, we were focusing on really understanding numbers and how they can be represented in a range of ways. Although we can do simple additions, it is important to be able to visualise this and see it in different ways. We used tens frames to quickly make and recognise different amounts then worked on adding them and what they looked like. Class 7 were very good at talking about their work and explaining their thoughts. Can you represent these additions, perhaps using pieces of cereal or two colour cubes on a tens frame?
7+8 5 +6 3+9 9+8 7+7 8+4 4+9 2+8
Have a go at making the amounts and adding up the counters online http://illuminations.nctm.org/activity.aspx?id=3565
Or why not play Frames Flash with someone at home?

Can you explain how muscles work? Teach someone at home or maybe you could draw a diagram and write an explanation! :)
31.1.17 Thinking Blocks - This is a great Maths website. Use Bar models and Part-whole method to solve online problems. You can also find it on the app store if you ask an adult.
31.1.17 Missing number problems
In Maths today we used the 'part whole' method today solve missing number addition and subtraction problems. Can you have a go at solving some missing number problems using this method at home? You could use pieces of pasta/cereal or beads or buttons! Make sure you can 'prove it' and you're able to explain your reasoning. Have at go at making up a story about these missing number problems, like our ones about Halloween and sweets! You could try explain our 'part whole' method to someone at home and make up missing number problems for them to solve :)
13 + ____ = 21 21 - _____ = 14
7 + ___ = 15 19 - _____ = 8
___ + 9 = 14 ____ - 8 = 9
____ + 13 = 19 _____ - 11 = 7
____ + 7 = 19 _____ - 6 = 8

26.1.17 Adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers...
We are practising our written methods for adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. Have a go at these problems then use a calculator to check your answers!
Challenge 3 254 +128 = 547 +229 = 576 + 226 = 270 +149 = 648 +153 = 427 +258 = 361 +147 = 327 + 418 = 575 +216 = 219 +505 = 772 +131 = 728 +109 = 665 +262 = 208 +165 = |
Challenge 4 254 -128 = 547 - 229 = 573 - 226 = 278 – 119 = 160 – 106 = 283 – 118 = 826 – 234 = 892 – 137 = 273 – 159 = 837 – 181 = 992 – 108 = 210 – 170 = |
