REACH FOR THE STARS...ATTENDANCE RESULTS! Class 14 again achieved the class prize this week with 100%. We have booked them a hip hop dance masterclass with Northern Stars Dance Academy for achieving 100% during Super Attendance Week. 97.1% attendance across the school this past week. For autumn term overall attendance is at 95.9%. School will close today at 3:15pm and reopen on Monday 30th October - Friday 20th October is a Teacher Training Day.

Year 5

 

Year 5 were involved in a range of hockey games to develop their tactical awareness.

Year 3

 

During their ball skills session, Year 3 used co-operative and competitive games to further develop their skills and simple tactics under pressure.

This week, Year 4 focused on striking different sized balls and shuttles with their hands and rackets.

In dance, Year 6 continued to link movements together in a logical sequence. In particular, they worked together to convey the feeling of power and strength.

During their multi skills session, Year 2 practiced throwing and catching in a stationary position, on the move and in different ways. Also, they made up games using throwing, catching and bouncing.

This week, Year 2 made an excellent effort towards performing Rocket rolls, Moon rolls and Dish/Flying Sauser rolls with good body tension and control.

Basketball Club

 

Pupils, who have been attending Basketball Club, have worked really hard on progressing their passing, dribbling and shooting skills during the last two weeks.

Year 3. 

 

Year 3 focused on chest, two- handed and over - head passes during this week's PE lesson. Also, Year 3 applied their passing skills in a game situation by playing Piggy in the Middle.

Year 6 worked well in their hockey session in order to develop their tactical awareness and ability to hold on to possession.

Year 4

 

Year 4 started of this week's lesson with a vigorous warm up to develop their mobility, spatial awareness neat footwork for moving around the court. They then went on to practice their control and balance by using footballs and cones.

Year 2 performed their Moon rolls and Moon rocks with excellent control.They showed great concentration and posture during their movements.

Year 6

 

During their dance session, Year 6 developed their ability to change and vary the range of spaces they used. They also focused on changing the dynamics throughout their sequences. They completed this activity by using the symbolic movement of chopping down trees in the Rainforest.

This week, Year 2 were involved in running and avoiding games for warm warm-ups to develop safe moving and awareness of others. They also focused on developing their throwing and catching skills using a range of apparatus.

Year 1

 

Year 1 demonstrated good control and balance when dribbling with different sized balls.

Year 3 worked on passing and receiving with their hands in different ways (chest and bounce passes). Also, they worked on being able to signal and move into a space  to receive the ball.

Year 6 played a range of small sided games and made effective choices about when, how and where to pass so they could retain possession. They also worked on being able to progress towards an opponents goal.

Year 4 worked on controlling a ball when dribbling and they worked on developing their passing and receiving skills with their hands.

During this weeks dance session, Year 6 had to choose appropriate movements to reflect the idea of cutting down trees in a forest.

Year 2 focused on developing their agility by trying to catch a ball by trying to catch a ball that was dropped from shoulder height. Also, they completed some excellent two feet to two feet jumps.

During this week's hockey lesson, Year 6 progressed their dribbling skills by mirroring a partner's movement. Afterwards, Year 6 focused on improving their ability to pass on the move and shoot.

This week, Year 4 participated in a range of running games that tested their agility and co-ordination skills. Furthermore, Year 4 used bean bags and hoops to develop their throwing and accuracy skills.

Friday 29th September

Year 3

 

Year 3 have had an 'exhausting' dance lesson this morning. They created their own dance to a piece of music from the Croods, using the knowledge they have gained in Topic lessons about Neolithic hunter-gatherers. They were challenged to think about how they would move, hunt and forage.

This week, Year 2 participated in a range of activities to develop their fundamental skills. All the pupils showed good balance and co ordination by being able to balance on one leg and sending and receiving a ball.

Basketball Club

 

Some pupils from year 4,5 and 6 have been participating in an after-school basketball club. Each pupil  made  great progress in terms of their dribbling, passing, attacking and defending abilities. I have been really impressed with the resilience, determination and positive attitude that they demonstrated throughout this half term. 

Multi-Skills Competition  (Key Stage One)

 

Year 1 and 2 performed brilliantly at the Multi-Skills competition which was held at Walbottle Secondary School. They participated in a range of activities that tested their co-ordination, balance and agility. Each member of the team showed an outstanding skill set and attitude towards each of their challenges. 

 

 

Badminton Club 

 

Year 4, 5 and 6 have made progress to be really proud of in terms of their badminton skills! They have been playing games that involve using both a forehand and backhand shot. 

Rugby Club

 

All the children, who have been attending Rugby Club, have displayed a compelling enthusiasm towards the sport. They have all developed their knowledge and skills in relation to position, strategy, communication and ball control. Keep the impressive work rate up! 

Athletics Competition

 

On Wednesday, some pupils from year 5/6 entered an inter-school athletics competition, which was held at Walker Sports Dome. The event started of with an encouraging and motivational speech from a recent Commonwealth Long Jumper and an Olympic Pole Vaulter. 

 

Once the main events started, each child showed a focused, determined and respectful sporting attitude. Amazingly, the different teams won three out of four relays that they entered and there was also three children who won their individual races. It was a delight to witness such an outstanding performance!

Football Competition

 

The year 5/6 football team put in a superb performance in the Duffy League at Walbottle Campus. We won our two games, which keeps us in contention for coming top of the league. Keep up the good work!

Dodgeball Competition

We had a thrilling afternoon at the Outer West Dodgeball competition this week. The children’s throwing, catching, dodging and jumping skills were evident to see.
