Autumn 1

This term, our class reader is Stitch Head by the fantastic Guy Bass. We will be creating our own merchandise for Stitch Head the movie and developing our art skills. In English, we will be finding out about persuasive writing and poetry and in Maths we are focusing on place value and addition and subtraction. It's going to be a very busy term!

We love your bookmarks and buttons and are looking forward to seeing your STITCH HEAD monsters completed next term.

What a lovely end to the term and our reading week.

Year 4 ordered key pictures from our key story and summarised the main events with detailed, descriptive sentences.

The bookmarks are finished and looking great and we even managed to attach our buttons to felt.

We thoroughly enjoyed our ginger biscuits from Beatrix Potter who was thrilled with all of our hard work this week and how much we've loved working on her books.

Have a lovely half term and we look forward to the next one - remember we can look forward to our DESIGN and TECHNOLOGY day on Thursday when we get back where we can complete our STITCH HEAD monsters.

17.10.17 Reading Week - Day 2

We enjoyed delving deeper into our Beatrix Potter text today and created wanted posters for devious Sanuel Whiskers and his penickity wife Anna Maria. The children used lots of text evidence in their writing and we used these to create a book to give to Beatrix Potter when she returns. Fantastic learning everyone!

16.10.17 Reading Week - Day 1

Today, we had a fantastic start to our Reading Week. Your costumes looked amazing. We met Beatrix Potter, found out about our book 'The Tale of Samuel Whiskers' and even stitched our own book marks. Fantastic learning everyone!

The Tale of Samuel Whiskers or The Roly-Poly Pudding

The Tale of Samuel Whiskers by Beatrix Potter. In The Tale of Samuel Whiskers the story tells what happens when Tom Kitten accidentally comes upon the rat Samuel Whiskers living in a secret hideout behind the attic walls. - Author: Beatrix Potter

Welcome to our Beatrix Potter Reading Week!

16.10.17 Our Science Fair

We loved having Year 3 come and visit us for our Science Fair today.  Thank you so much for all the hard work the children put into their projects at home.  We were so impressed with them!

And look what the Year 3s discovered - this learner didn't know anything about the water cycle before the Science Fair!

16.10.17 Spellings and Times Tables

As we have a teacher training day on Friday, we have decided not to give out spellings this week. Next half term we are going to be doing lots of work around multiplication and division so instead, this week and over half term, please can you practise your times tables. We need to know up to 12x12 by the end of Year 4. Thank you for all your support!

In RE today - you all worked with interest to sort and discuss the variety of religious signs and symbols.

13.10.17 We are so proud of your final performances of the narrative poem "Where the poppies now grow" - you worked brilliantly in teams and worked hard to use loud, clear voices with great expression.

12.10.17 Some more examples of our amazing science projects. They are all fantastic! We have been blown away with the effort and detail that has been put into them.

10.10.17 The children's amazing homework.

Thavk you so much for all the support you have given the children with their amazing homework projects. You have all been very creative. If you haven't sent yours in, the last day is Monday when we will be holding a Science Fair for the Year 3 children. Thank you again for all your support.

10.10.17 Our fantastic learning!

9.10.17 Our Newest Handwriting Hero

Well done to this super learner for achieving her handwriting pen. She always takes pride over her work. Fantastic learning!

Year 4 are busy working collaboratively and writing their own verse of Ogden Nash's narrative poem "The Adventures of Isabel" - we can't wait to hear them perform their verses next week.

5.10.17 Here are some fantastic and very creative pieces of Science homework. They presented them to the class with brilliant confidence.

Here are some of our amazing writers who produced some exciting diary entries as Stitch Head. We loved your ambitious vocabulary, the way you showed the characters's viewpoint and of course your brilliant presentation. We could see lots of evidence from your guided reading work which help your use of detail.

26.9.17 Our amazing writing...

Today we put our new persuasive writing skills to the test and wrote letters to try and persuade a local Councillor to keep Fulbert Freakfinder's circus open. We used alliteration, rhetorical questions, facts and figures and fantastic sentence starters to persuade. We are really impressed with all the children's progress. Well done Year 4!

22.9.17 French day - Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed all things French today. We definitely looked the part!

21.9.17 Year 4 were excited to read the words they found around the classroom today in guided reading and were able to make informed predictions. They then used some of this language to build their own sentences in English - some even managed to include clauses! We also showed great team work investigating our 4 digit numbers to see how many new numbers we could make before ordering them.

19.9.17 Handwriting Heroes!

We have awarded our first Handwriting Heroes their new pens. They have shown they can correctly join their letters and present their work neatly. We are really proud of them - well done everyone!

17.9.17 States of Matter

Today the children became particles, to see how they act differently in different states. We are really looking forward to seeing their Science Fair Homework. Remember it is a project about states of matter or the water cycle and can be presented in any way they like.
