Autumn 1

Welcome back Year 4!  We are very excited for our learning this half term. We are going to become a merchandising company for 'Stitch Head’ by Guy Bass which is our brilliant class reader. We are creating our own monster decorations for a Halloween themed party, developing our drawing skills and discovering techniques for persuasion.  In our Maths we are going to be learning about place value, addition and subtraction and in our Science we will be finding out about 'States of Matter.' We can't wait to get started!

24.10.18 Performance Poetry - We had a brilliant time listening to our performance poet. We enjoyed using actions and voices to join in poems.

We read chosen poems aloud this morning after discussing vocabulary choices and the mood created by the range of poems. One of our focuses this week is on poems from WW1 and we read and discussed a range of different examples.

23.10.18 MAKING A DIFFERENCE Wow! Check out our amazing poetry!! We have been writing about diversity and our poems have been entered in the Premier League's Writing Stars Competition. We find out if we have any winners in February. It was a pleasure reading your work today Year 4 !


As we have a very busy week this week with our Reading week, poetry concert and Halloween festivities, we have decided to not give spellings this week. Please remember to keep using times table rockstars and mathletics. Thank you for your support!

22.10.18 BOOKS BUILD BRAINS We had a brilliant time being visited by local poet Beda Higgins who helped us improve our poems by thinking about our senses. Fantastic learning everyone!

15.10.18 We have had a very busy day making predictions, activating prior knowledge, using pronouns and fronted adverbials. Well done everyone!

Class 10 worked hard to achieve their level one certificate and badges in Bikeability this morning - despite the “lovely” weather!

9.10.18 ⭐️POSSIBILITIES⭐️ ADA LOVELACE DAY We have had a brilliant day finding out about women in Science. We were visited by Marie who is a marine biologist who told us all about her job. Did you know that octopuses have beaks?

5.10.18 Today Year 4 worked collaboratively to write in role as a character of their choice. They thought about formality and style to suit their character.

It is all down to your fantastic learning attitude! Mr Outterside was so impressed you can find us on his Interstellar Learning page and he gave everyone 3 house points!! Well done!

1.10.18 Negative Numbers! We had a brilliant time playing tug of war we were aiming to get to either positive 10 or negative 10. Fantastic work everyone!

27.9.18 Our Skills session went well today and we have shown determination and perseverance! We are nearly ready to start making our monster decorations, watch this space!

🌍MAKING A DIFFERENCE🌍 We welcomed Cloud into class to find out all about him and his life as a Sikh. You had some great questions and listened with respect and interest well done.

We have been so impressed with the progress the children have already made with their writing this year. They love to challenge themselves and always try their best. Here are some examples of our amazing diary entry writing. We had to include feelings and details from our class reader. Fantastic work Year 4! 

24.9.18 A few notices.....



We are very sorry that Bikeability has to be postponed for Class 10. Our new date is Friday 12th October (hopefully it won't be a windy day!!) Please could you bring your bike, helmet and a warm coat in on that day. Thank you!


Diversity Day

On Wednesday 26th September, we are celebrating Westerhope's first ever Diversity Day.  We have some amazing activities planned. Please could the children come in non uniform for a donation of £1. This will go towards activities on the day. We can't wait!!! 

Wow! This learner has set the standards extremely high for our science fair homework projects - no pressure everyone! 😜

20.9.18 Year 4 impressed us today with their work in computing. They used their understanding of coding to control the angry birds! Some pupils even got on to their extra challenges! Keep coding!

We just wanted to let you know that Mathletics has now been updated and your first mathletics homework is now available. If you have any problems completing this, just let us know so your children can attend homework club. The link for Mathletics can be found at the top of this page. 



We have Bikeability this week. Please can Class 9 bring their bikes and helmets on Monday and Class 10 on Wednesday.  When you arrive at school can you please leave your bikes in the bike shed and leave any lock keys with your children.

12.9.18 Thank you so much to everyone who was able to attend our parents meetings. We loved seeing you there and can't wait to work with you all this year.

On Wednesday 12th September at 9:00 and 3:15, we will be holding short welcome meetings for our parents. Here you can come and meet the children's class teachers, find out about our routines and ask any questions you might have. We look forward to seeing lots of you there!
