Autumn 1

Year 3 cave creations!

Monday 16th October

What a day! Today lots of caves came into school, I shall upload all the photographs as soon as possible. We are all so impressed with the caves, our plan is to show them off to the whole school.

Also to kick start our reading week, Beatrix Potter came to visit us today. She sent us out foraging in the garden for berries. We will use the berries to print our own handkerchiefs later in the week.

Thursday 12th October

Just a few reminders.... next week is our reading week. Our theme is Beatrix Potter. The children have been asked to dress up as either Beatrix Potter or a character from one of her stories on Monday 16th October.

We will be testing year 3 on their 3 times tables next Thursday, they will practise in class, but please can you practise at home with them too. They will be tested up to 12X3. Thank you.

Homework projects are due in on Monday, thank you for all of your help and support with the caves. We have been absolutely amazed by them. Look below for a few examples.

In Maths we have been very busy this week adding and subtracting multiples of 10 from 3 digit numbers. We have used lots of equipment to help us to understand exactly what we are doing. Here are some photographs of us consolidating our learning with a game.

Thursday 5th October

We have been very impressed by the homework projects the children have been bringing into school. Have a look at the photographs below...

All the Year 3 children had an opportunity to logon to Mathletics during our computing lessons this week. They were all able to logon and access their homework. If you are having any difficulties please check the username and password very carefully. They are case sensitive and there are no gaps. If you have internet problems, the children can also join a member of staff at homework club on a Thursday lunchtime. Any other problems, please see Mrs Dalkin or Mr McDonald.

Friday 29th September

Year 3 have had an 'exhausting' dance lesson this morning. They created their own dance to a piece of music from the Croods, using the knowledge they have gained in Topic lessons about Neolithic hunter-gatherers. They were challenged to think about how they would move, hunt and forage.

Monday 25th September

What a morning we have had! Mr McDonald and Mrs Dalkin were just introducing our new book, 'Stig of the Dump' by Clive King, when Stig came to visit us! We were a bit shocked but very excited! He brought us some food he had foraged in the garden and explained how to capture a mammoth!

Today we gave the children their Mathletics cards with passwords on. We have set a piece of homework, and would like it to be completed by next Friday please (29/9/17) Thank you.

We have had so much fun today, we started with a French assembly with Mr McDonald, then we ordered our French breakfast. Our waiters and waitresses were our teachers! We did our maths lesson in French, visited a French café and had a technology challenge to build a mini Eiffel Tower using art straws. All in all an absolutely brilliant day!  Thank you for all your efforts with the costumes - they all looked amazing!

Thursday 21st September

What have Year 3 been up to this week?

Well we have been very busy...

In computing we have been revising how to logon using our new passwords, opening a word document, typing some questions about the Stone Age and then saving our work in the correct folder.

In History, we have been researching how the Stone Age people lived, ask your child if they can tell you some facts from our work this week. Ask why fire was so important.... they should be able to give you a few reasons! We also looked at timelines to see how far back the Stone age actually was, we started looking at when we were born, when Mr McDonald was born, (luckily not when Mrs Dalkin was born - phew), when the World Wars were and then all the way back to the Stone age!

Tuesday 12th September

Year 3 have had another very busy day!

First of all we were treated to a violin demonstration. The children absolutely loved it. We clapped along to the rhythm and some of us had a go on the violin.

Monday 11th September

Hoopstarz superstars - we had so much fun with our hoops today! We were absolutely brilliant, if our ribs ache tomorrow we know why! Thank you Friends of Westerhope.
