Autumn 1

The children have been very busy learning all about Peter Rabbit during Reading Week.  We have painted Peter Rabbit, made Peter Rabbit puppets and have created our own collage of Mr McGregor's allotment.  Thank you parents for the effort made with costumes on Monday and the Peter Rabbit books that were brought into school.

Here are some of our finished rabbits!

We have been busy painting pictures of Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cotton-tail and their mum Mrs Rabbit. Mrs Phillip was very impressed with how carefully the children painted their pictures.

We made our own Peter Rabbits. They look very cute!

We used tissue paper to make a collage of Mr McGregor's garden, there were no naughty rabbits eating the vegetables today!

Reading Week in Year 1

We had special visitor today, Miss Potter came to help us re-tell the story of Peter Rabbit. She was very impessed with all the details we remembered from the story.

These are our Peter Rabbit biscuits. They look amazing and were lots of fun to make. We hope they taste as good as they look!

Class 3 looking great in their costumes!

Class 4 looked brilliant dressed as characters from the Beatrix Potter stories!

Super investigators...We looked the properties of different materials and objects.

Wonderful colour mixing

The children used coloured water and pipettes to mixed primary colours - the results were brilliant.

Mouse Paint

Our finished mice!

We made patterns with the primary colours and then mixed them to make secondary colours. It was great fun mixing the paint with our fingers! Look back later in the week to see what we turned our thumb prints into. Ask your child if they can name the primary and secondary colours.

This week, Year 1 are starting a new English topic on 'Instructions'.  We will be learning all about listening to and following instructions and then we will write our own set.  We will be doing lots of fun activities that involve instructions.

The children took it in turns to create a race using some equipment.  They then gave clear instructions to their partner about how to complete the race.  They also played a shape game, giving instructions to make a picture using shapes.  Another job was to give instructions to sort toys into the correct place on some shelves.  We also enjoyed making jam and honey sandwiches - the children were great at listening to and following instructions, thinking about what the next step could be. Well done Year 1.
Magical Maths

Year 1 have been learning all about one more and one less.

Class 4 are amazing at getting changed for PE! The children are so quick and can fold their clothes really carefully. Mrs Phillip is so impressed!

French Day

We made pictures of the Eiffel Tower out of art straws. We had to think carefully about the shapes we needed to make. Mrs Phillip and Mrs Dawes were very impressed with our pictures!

We practised asking for croissant and pain au chocolat in french. it was really yummy!

Year 1 are ready for French Day!

Today we had a visitor who told us all about being a postal worker. We found out what happens to a letter when it is posted. We loved trying on the big, red jacket and carrying the bag of letters!

Our visit to the post office

We really enjoyed our visit to the post office and we were very excited when our postcards were delivered back to school today!

To see pictures of our first dance lesson look in the Curriculum in Action section of our website.

Week 2 This week we have been practising our counting skills.

Fun in the classroom!

We have started learning about our new science topic, materials. We went on a walk around our school grouds to see if we could spot items made from everyday materials. Ask your child if they can name and find some everyday materials in your home.

The children had a fantastic time learning some new hula hooping skills! We were so impressed with how good they were. We even had a visit from Mr Outterside who also had a go! Well done everyone!

Week 1 Getting to know each other.

We have had a lovely first week in Year 1! The children have been brilliant, quickly picking up the new routines and trying hard with all the activities they have been given.
