We have been busy creating a moving mechanism as part of our DT project. We have made our own superhero pop up book with a story to go with it. The children looked at pop up books and discussed their likes and dislikes!

Reading Week 2018

We have had a brilliant reading week focusing on poetry. We have learnt a poem Superhero Steve to link into our superhero topic and completed lots of work around this poem. We were lucky enough to visit the book fair and some of us even bought some books! A travelling poet came and shared his work with us- we were really impressed! He used instruments alongside his poetry. We got to got to different year groups and share poems- we went to Year 6 smiley

To end our reading week we had a poetry recital and learnt a poem off by heart to share in assembly!

Thank you to any parents who came in to share poems with the children smiley

Traction Man coming to visit

Year 2 have been doing work based on the superhero Traction Man! Today we were lucky enough to be visited by the man himself!! He had a tricky problem for us to try and solve as a year group. We had a lot of fun and it was amazing to meet a real life superhero! smiley

Topic- Art

Year 2 have been learning about contrasting colours. We learnt about 2 artists who are famous for their Pop Art and said what we liked and what we didn't like. We have been using the colour wheel to find out what contrasting colours are.

Safety Works Trip

Year 2 have had an amazing trip to Safety works to learn about real life heroes because our topic is all about Superheroes! We were blown away by how real the scenarios were and how well behaved the children were.

The children had the chance to learn about first aid and how to call for help in an emergency. Ask your child what they should do in an emergency!

Class 5 got to learn about road safety and they tested the green cross code – can your child tell you what it is??

Class 6 got to learn about dog safety and how to pet animals correctly and safely.

The children got to learn about stranger danger from the police. We learnt that there are good strangers and bad strangers and what to do if we ever came across a bad stranger.

Lastly, we learnt about fire safety. The children got to learn about smoke alarms and were asked to go home and check where there smoke alarm is!

We had a brilliant day and the children learnt lots about what real life heroes do everyday!

Diversity day

We had a great day celebrating diversity day! We were lucky enough to have 2 visitors come and talk about their faith- Judaism. We got to see some of the artefacts that were special to them such as the Torah and wear a kippah.

After break we got to learn about different foods from around the world. We then made our own healthy wrap with lots of different foods.. Yummy!!

We talked about lots of books - Elmer and Edward the Emu and spoke about what made the children special and accepting our differences.

We were lucky enough to try some Bollywood dancing with Mrs Rutherford at the end of the day..

Phew!! What a busy but very fun day!

Thank you for all your support smiley

Sign Language

The children learnt a song and learnt the sign language to go with it! How impressed was I!

The children have been focusing on place value in maths. We have been representing different numbers, partitioning numbers in different ways and we have been using lots of equipment to help us. We have compared numbers and explained how we know by talking about their tens and ones. We are starting to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. Can you think of any ways to carry this out at home?

Thanks for checking out our Year 2 page. Throughout the year we will be uploading pictures and letting you know what your child has been up to in their lessons.

We have welcome meetings this week :
