Life Skills (PSHE, SMSC, British Values)

In this section of the gallery, you will see the work we do to prepare our amazing children to become confident, caring adults. We can't wait to show you what we have been up to!!

Our Curriculum

You can find out more about what we will be looking by clicking on the link below!

Reviewing our Life Skills Curriculum

We are very proud of the work we do to teach Life Skills at Westerhope Primary School. This includes promoting British Values, developing the children's Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural awareness and teaching them Personal, Social, Health, Economic  skills and discussing how these are used in the wider world. We constantly review and update our curriculum as a whole school team, listening to the views of our children, staff and leaders and informing our governors. Here are some reviews of this work:

Anti Bullying Week is finally here! We celebrate this by taking part in Secret Buddy Week. Throughout the week, everyone is given a 'secret buddy' and their mission is to be extra kind to this person. You can share books, draw pictures, give your secret buddy a smile or whatever you want to make your secret buddy's day smiley

A sprinkle of 'School of Kindness' in Year 5 and 6...

We have explored the meaning of 'kindness', sharing thoughts and feelings of what being kind looks like and the impact kindness has on other people.

Our incredibly kind learners in Year 5 and 6 made their own act of kindness for a seven year old girl who had a difficult start to her young life and was in need of lots of kind messages to brighten her day.

What an incredible job they did! The children's messages were so thoughtfully written, expressing care, kindness and positivity from start to finish. Our young friend will be so happy and appreciative to receive them, I have no doubt!

The word inspirational springs to mind!

Feelings

This half term, everyone in school is focusing on ways to stay Healthy in their Life Skills sessions. Understanding their own feelings, others' feelings, how they can cope with difficult feelings and how their feelings can be affected by the media. We feel emotional health is very important to the development of everyone of our wonderful pupils. Here are some videos used to support their understanding and links to give advice to parents about developing emotional health.

Why Do We Lose Control of Our Emotions?

Simple, easy-to-understand whiteboard animation to help early Elementary-aged children gain an understanding of the way their brains work to recognize and manage their emotions. This is intended as a beginning resource to help children, parents, educators, and those who work with children to encourage mindfulness, empathy, and emotional regulation.

The Feelings Song

It's a song for children about feelings and emotions.
