A Message From Our Headteacher

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

As the end of the second week of school closure and lock down I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the Westerhope school community during this difficult time.

First of all thank you for supporting school by keeping your children at home and for the many sacrifices you are making. I wish you well in your isolation and your efforts to educate your child. Please just do what you can with the tasks our teachers are providing via the website. We know it’s not easy being at home all day and also your child’s personal tutor. Our staff are keeping me up to date with some of the best websites currently available and these can be found on the homework section of the COVID website page.

Thank you also to the parents and families of key workers who have had to use our childcare offer but who have worked hard to reorganise their time and holidays so that their children are in school as little as possible.  We are especially thankful to our NHS key workers and we understand you will get busier if we don’t listen and stay at home. We understand you are trying to save lives and we appreciate all your efforts. At school, we are trying to support you, by encouraging people to stay at home and be socially distant.

I want to thank our excellent staff for putting themselves on the line too. They are doing a great job keeping the key worker children entertained and busy so that our dedicated key workers can do their crucial work and our society can continue to function. This includes not only our teaching staff but also our administrative and pastoral teams who have worked non-stop to support the school’s provision as well as the facilities staff from Engie and Chartwells.

For our children we know it’s not easy having to stay at home and do school work without your friends in class. Don’t forget to squeeze in as much reading as you can and a bit of indoor fitness too. Your teachers will be so pleased when they hear of your excellent behaviour and the efforts you are making to help your family.  We miss you but watch out for changes to the website and messages from your teachers on the Home Learning website tab (Children’s pages).

Free School Meals Update

We will be providing a food voucher scheme for families entitled to free school meals. We are hoping that this will start week commencing 27th April and a weekly food package will be available week commencing 20th April until the scheme is up and running. As soon as the voucher scheme is in place we will notify the eligible families by email.

Child Care Arrangements for Key Worker Families after the Easter Holidays.

All children eligible for the Outer West Learning Trust Easter club offer have been contacted and places allocated. After the Easter holidays we will resume the Westerhope childcare offer and school will be open with a skeleton staff on a rota. We will allocate places but remember the advice is STAY at HOME

Stay safe and look after each other over Easter,

Mark Outterside (Headteacher)
