Democracy Day
Our school was visited today by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and Catherine McKinnell MP. Our Westerhope School Council welcomed the dignitaries and asked them lots of questions about their roles. We then held an assembly with KS2 where our pupils asked more questions of our politicians. We learned the difference between local and national government. We then held a debate about the use of mobile phones in schools. Catherine gave us tips about debating and showed us how MPs function in Parliament. An excellent day and thanks to our former teacher, Ms Strachan, for working alongside pupils this week on the theme of democracy.
