Remembrance Assembly

Today we assembled together to remember those who sacrificed their lives during World War I. Mr Outterside was supported by Year 6 pupils who read extracts from the Westerhope School Log Book. It told us about life at school during the war. We then looked at some pages from the books our children had read about life during the war and considered significant events such as the ‘Christmas Truce.’ One of our families was used as an example of the sacrifice made, with generations of service to the forces. We looked at their medals and photographs. We concluded with silent thoughts as the ‘Last Post’ played. The children were so respectful and a credit to their families in the way they stood remembering our fallen soldiers. Thanks to Angela Birrell for the artefacts and poppies that she brought into school.
