The Secretary of State for Education has confirmed that he will not asking schools to open over the summer holidays, and there is no expectation that schools should open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers over this period. Teachers, support staff and school leaders at Westerhope have continued to support learners since the first day of lock down during term time and holidays also.
We will be clearer of the local opportunities for holiday clubs over the coming weeks. For example, The Best Summer Ever team has announced that there will be a summer holiday scheme this year. They can’t run the summer scheme in the usual way, so we will provide families with:
activity kits to use at home, including sports, arts and crafts, cooking kits and more;
emergency food parcels;
access to online activities and group activity sessions;
activities in parks and open spaces, if social distancing allows, and
some schools will run summer programmes.
The plan is to drop off activity kits and things to do over the summer on your doorstep. Usually, these kits will be delivered by community groups. Some activities will be provided online. Families without internet access should let the team know as they are setting up local Wi-Fi access systems.
Where there are activities in parks and other outdoor venues, social distancing rules will be strictly adhered to.
