We are reading all about Emperor Penguins in English to support our topic learning all about the North and South Poles. Today has been our “It’s good to be me! Day” as part of Children’s Mental Health Week. We were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from Mrs Preshous and her therapy dog, Libby. We have discussed looking after our minds and bodies, joined in with a giant doodle, completed some mindfulness colouring and been active taking part in boxing and Tae Kwan do.

On Friday afternoon Year 2 had a visit from Jo from Newcastle council telling us all about road safety. Children should have brought home their certificate and sticker after the session 😀
Our new topic is “Poles Apart” where we will be reading some exciting texts and looking carefully at our Geography skills with a focus on maps!
Our first little English project of 2020 has been The Slightly Annoying Elephant by David Walliams - the children have made excellent predictions and written some great descriptive sentences so far. They are in the process of planning their own version of the story and choosing which animal will be their main character has been lots of fun. The children have had some interesting and imaginative ideas and we look forward to planning more and writing our own stories next week...
