Today, the whole school completed their investigation into the missing painting. All the evidence pointed to Mr Devlin! It turns out he was hoping to sell the painting and then use the money to buy a new trophy cabinet for all of the wonderful trophies our sports people have been winning. He also commented that the idea had been given to him by someone else, someone who is very keen on PE, someone who teaches in Year 3, someone who is not Mrs Dalkin.... The day ended well as Mr Devlin returned the painting and was forgiven. A fabulous week of Super Science investigations. Well done everyone.
What a strange day we have had at Westerhope! To start the day we had an emergency assembly, where Mr Outterside revealed that a famous painting had been stolen from school!
Mr Bell explained that the police had identified 12 possible suspects. Each class was given certain pieces of evidence and it is our job over the next two days to try and find the culprit.
Year 3 have to try and work out who it is by measuring the length of the suspect's arms. We began by checking we could use a tape measure correctly, then we set off to get measuring. So far (Thursday lunchtime) we have managed to eliminate Mrs Dalkin and Mr McDonald from our enquiries. 😊😊 Watch this space for more updates.
We placed our amazing projects onto maps of the UK or the World! We needed so many maps! Thank you all so much for your support with this homework project. We promise the next one will be easier! 😁
Welcome to our Year 3 landmarks museum! Class 5 and 6 came for a visit to see our fabulous projects.

Here, the children are summarising information they have learnt, for Rafa Benitez and the Newcastle players. Hopefully this information can help them get back to winning ways (after the Man United game)!

Friday 12th January
What a super afternoon we have had. We have used the iPads to search for places on google earth, we found all sorts of places to help us with our new topic 'All around the World'. Some children looked for their homes, some looked for famous landmarks and some even went to Disneyland! Wow! We were amazed at how accurate the maps were.
Did you know that Class 8 won the reading challenge for last half term? That means that we read the most amount of books in the whole school. Mrs Russell has decided that we can have a class treat. We are busy thinking about what we would like. Well done everyone, let's keep it up.
Next week we are starting our new class reader, The Amazing Story Of Adolphus Tips by Michael Murpurgo.
Thursday 11th January
We have been learning how to use causal conjunctions to improve our writing.
We had a text explaining how to do something. Unfortunately the text was muddled up, we had to read it all and work out the correct order. It was trickier than it looked!
We hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas holiday and a brilliant start to the New Year.
Our new topic is All around the World. The new homework project will be sent to you via parentmail and explained to the children this week.
This week's spellings are as follows:
arteries
brain
branching
capillaries
ligament
muscle (mussel)
shoulder
skeleton
veins (vane)
vessels
They will be tested on Friday 12th January.
The children have now learnt their 3, 4 and 8 times tables. They now need to be as fluent as possible and know these tables off by heart. Please practice as often as you can. Online games are an excellent way to improve their speed.
We are having a huge push on reading this term. Please can you listen to your child read as often as possible too. Thank you so much for your support.
