Spring 1

Friday 9th February

The children have worked very hard when investigating the crime of 'The stolen painting'.

From the information we gathered, we were able to eliminate Mrs Purdy and Mrs Coker because they have the smallest feet and never usually wear trainers to school.

Other year groups ruled out further suspects and only one person was left in the line up! MR DEVLIN!! We couldn't believe it. When he was asked about why he had stolen the painting, he told the children and the staff that he wanted to sell it to buy a trophy cabinet for all of the trophies Westerhope keeps winning. Mr Outterside has said he will buy one for the school and the painting has been safely returned.
Thursday 8th February

OH NO!  There has been a break in!!  The wonderful and expensive painting named 'Life' has been stolen from the school.  It is up to the pupils of Westerhope to solve the crime!  We are holding a 'WHO DUNNIT' investigation to eliminate suspects from the line up.  Our own Mrs Phillip has been identified as one of the suspects - we hope we can prove that she didn't do it!

Year 1 have been given the job of investigating the footprint that was found at the crime scene. Have a look at the information we collected...

Chinese New Year

In our assembly today Mrs Phillip talked to us about Chinese New Year. 2018 is the Year of the Dog. We watched a film about how Chinese New Year is celebrated. Ask us what we can remember.

Valentine's Disco Fun!

Friday 2nd February

Solving subtraction

Year 1 have been investigating different ways of representing and solving subtraction problems.  The children have amazed us with their hard work.  They are beginning to become confident in their mathematical explanations, putting their understanding into full sentences e.g. "15 represents the whole number which is split into 2 parts".

Gingerbread Day

We had lots of fun making our own gingerbread, we couldn't wait to eat them when we got home!
We tried to remember all the steps to make our gingerbread and then wrote our own instructions. Look at our amazing writing!
Thursday 18th January and Friday 19th January

We have been learning all about how to make bird feeders.

Friday 19th January

We have been reading The Tale of Jack Frost by David Melling

Thursday 18th January

Road Safety

The children had a visit from Jo and Tessie who came to tell them how to KEEP SAFE when they are out and about, near roads and travelling by foot, scooter, bike and car.

We learnt how to cross a road safely:

Hold an adult's hand;

Find a safe crossing place;

Keep toes on the path when waiting to cross;

Don't run across the road;

Most importantly Remember

THE GREEN CROSS CODE:

THINK, STOP, LOOK, LISTEN.

We learnt how to keep safe when travelling in a car:

Wear a seat belt (don't put the belt under your arm);

Sit on a suitable car seat;

Don't distract the driver.

We learnt how to keep safe when travelling by bike:

ALWAYS wear a helmet;

Wear high visibility clothing (especially when it is dark);

Use lights if it is dark;

Be sensible on roads when you are riding your bike.
