We enjoyed making pedometers during STEM week to count how many steps we could do. Our digital leaders talked us through it and showed us how to code the micro bit.

Year 3 have been thinking about recycling and reusing. We spotted a problem with our reading folders and thought about how we could make our own easily. We decided to use our old t-shirts to make a ‘tote bag’ that we could also use as a reading folder. Look at the results! Aren’t they great. All we needed was an old t-shirt and a pair of scissors. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
Today we were lucky enough to have two engineers in our classes. Jenny talked about her job, where she designs pipes to collect oil from the bottom of the seabed. Farah, a student from Newcastle university came in to explain what being a civil engineer is all about. We had a go at designing our own communities with Farah’s help. What a super informative day!

Here are our spellings for week beginning 24/2/2020, the children will be tested on Friday 28/2/2020. The spellings show the use of an apostrophe for possession. We talked to the children about what possession means, if something belongs to you. For example - Mrs Dalkin's coat or Miss Stewart's water bottle. The coat belongs to Mrs Dalkin and the water bottle belongs to Miss Stewart.

STEM week

We started our stem week ‘Engineers of the Future’ by looking at air pollution. We have an air quality monitor in our school so we interpreted our graphs and compared our school to other places in Newcastle. We were shocked to find out our  air pollution was very high during the snow!

We then conducted our own experiment to find out specifically where in school is the most polluted. We will find out tomorrow where! πŸ˜€

25.2.20 STEM WEEK Today, as part of our week celebrating engineers of the future we became aeronautical engineers and tried to find ways to improve hoop flyers. Well done Year 3!
