What a fantastic day! Today we got outside with our brilliant homework projects to train as if we were in the Roman army. The children learnt to march, make a testudo and a square formation. The square didn't work as well and we think the commander possibly wasn't very safe! 😳😳
Roman Homework Projects
"Amazing...brilliant...fantastic...wow!" Just some of the words used by children and adults from all around our school to describe the Roman shields that the children have brought in. Thank you again for all of your support and enthusiasm!
Roman ballista
The children have been putting their design and technology skills to the test, whilst they have been building their own ballista's. We had great fun testing them, to see how far they fired.
What a fabulous day! The children looked amazing in their red, white and blue outfits. We had a special visit from a petting zoo, a tea party and dancing in the yard. Look at our amazing bunting too! Thank you so much for your kind contributions toward our tea party - we were spoilt!
Don't forget that tomorrow (Friday 18th May) we are celebrating the Royal wedding in school. The children can come into school dressed in red, white and/or blue. Please can they also bring some cakes and/or biscuits for our tea party during the afternoon. We are looking forward to a fun filled Royal day!

We have reminded the children that maths homework has been set on Times Table Rockstars. Five minutes a day will make such a difference. By the end of year 3 we should know our 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times table facts fluently including related division facts. The children are really enjoying the games! 👍
Today we went into our school grounds to litter pick. We were really surprised at how much litter we found hidden behind the bushes in the yard.
What fun we have had this afternoon making catapults! The Romans used catapults during their invasions, so we thought we'd make our own and then have 'catapult wars' when they are all finished. Here we are during the 'making' process. We had lots of problem solving to do.
What a fabulous day we had yesterday. Our visit to the Roman Army museum and Vindolanda was so interesting. We found out what life was like in a Roman classroom, listened to a talk from an archaeologist and so much more! The children behaved absolutely perfectly and we were extremely proud of them all. Well done Year 3!
We can't wait for our visit on Tuesday 8th May. Please make sure your child has permission via parent pay. The children will need a coat, a packed lunch, sensible footwear and school uniform. The weather forecast is lovely so all day sunscreen would be great. Thank you!
Note: we will not be swimming as it is a full day visit.
😊
Look at Year 3 looking fabulous in red! Today we are raising money towards our very own defibrillator. Mr McDonald was very happy to see us all wearing red, apparently it is his favourite colour. 😉
Here are the spellings for this week to be tested on Friday 4th May.
Also we will NOT be sending spellings next week due to the Bank Holiday and visit on Tuesday.
