Personal Development
At Westerhope Primary School, we are committed to nurturing well-rounded children who are kind to themselves, others and our planet.
We achieved the SMSC Quality Mark and you can read the full report here.
Our personal development programme is built around our school values. These values guide everything that we do in school to help our pupils become considerate capable young people.
Our personal development programme is interwoven with our taught curriculum.
Our PSHE curriculum equips children with skills and understanding that children need to thrive in Modern Britain. Through RE lessons, children develop an understanding of their own beliefs and the beliefs of others and through our computing curriculum and wider assembly programme, children are taught how to recognise danger and keep themselves safe both on and offline.
As a 52 Lives School of Kindness, there are many chances for children to spread kindness both in our school and beyond. Every year, we have a chosen school charity which we support.
Through our PE curriculum and beyond, we promote the importance of physical wellbeing. We also use the Zones of Regulation to support our children to recognise their feelings and develop the self-regulation skills to manage their emotions. Our Pastoral Team is also on hand to support children with their mental wellbeing.
We have a wide range of opportunities for children to discover their passions and develop new skills. Our clubs programme includes school-led activities, external specialist clubs, and pupil-led initiatives, ensuring there's something for every interest. Through our pupil leadership opportunities, children build confidence, learn responsibility and make a real contribution to school life.
Beyond the classroom, our carefully planned educational visits give children the chance to explore different places and broaden their horizons, creating memorable experiences that enrich their learning and understanding of the world around them.
At Westerhope Primary School, every child belongs, and every child has the opportunity to flourish.
