Nursery

What do we offer?

  • We offer a 39 place Nursery class of 15 hours each week
  • Our Nursery is open 8:40-3:15 on Monday and Tuesday and then 8:40-11:45 on Wednesday.
  • Nursery children stay for lunch on their full days and can have a school lunch or bring their own packed lunch.
  • Nursery is part of our main school building and is very much part of our wider school.
  • Nursery children access all areas of our Early Years Curriculum, which fully prepares them for the next steps in their learning journey at Westerhope
  • The Nursery children are organised into key groups and are allocated a key worker within the first few weeks of their time at Nursery.  The children will enjoy small group times and special experiences with their key workers, but, will have opportunities to work with all of the children and other adults across the day.

Within the Nursery day the children will have opportunities to;

  • take part in whole class and small group learning sessions,
  • play with friends and adults both indoors and outdoors,
  • access adult led learning activities,
  • share snack times and lunch times together,
  • enjoy stories, rhymes, singing, dancing and talking with adults and friends.

What can you expect in our Nursery provision?

Our Nursery provision is a bright, modern and airy space painted in calm neutral tones which incorporates the principles of Hygge and Wanderlust. We aim to make the children feel welcomed and comfortable in the homely environment and we want them to be excited to explore the areas.

We have added a range of open-ended resources to inspire our children to think creatively and to use their imagination in their play.

The children access a range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences across each day.

Our indoor areas include:

  • a home corner
  • a snack station
  • a curiosity cube
  • construction
  • loose parts
  • an art area
  • sand and water play
  • Maths area
  • small world
  • a reading area

Our areas change to meet the interests and needs of the children and we bring nature indoors to spark the children's curiosity and develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

Our experienced staff nurture the children to ensure their first experience of a school environment is a positive one. They build relationships with the children so they are able to meet their needs and recognise if children need support or if they need to be challenged.

We are proud of what we offer and if you are a prospective parent wanting to learn more, please arrange a visit with the school office.
