Extra Curricular Clubs

At Westerhope, our aim is provide a range of extra-curricular activities across the year for a range of different year groups. This programme of activities is something we hope to develop. If any member of the school community would like to help us with this, please contact school admin admin@westerhope.newcastle.sch.uk.   

The Dazzling Descants

Years 4 and 5

Mrs Thompson

A fun introduction to playing the descant recorder, learning how to read and interpret musical notation, and enjoying performing as a group. It is lovely to have some children returning from last year and some new faces joining too. Look out for future performances!

 

Athletics Club

Year 5 and 6

Elite Sport

The UKS2 children will have the opportunity to perfect their athletic skills.

 

Kindness Club

Reception, Years 1 and 2

Mrs Hay

Our kindness club will empower children by helping them discover the little choices they make can help make the world a kinder place.

 

Yoga

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Claire Straughn (Soothing massage and Children's yoga)

During the session the children will develop strength, coordination, flexibility and balance as well as body awareness, better focus, concentration and self-confidence. They will also learn the importance of relaxation.

 

Pupil Committee

Years 3 to 6

Miss Forster

Our pupil committee play an integral role to the development of our school. Miss Forster will be working with them on a range of projects to improve our school.

 

Book Club

Years 5 and 6

Mrs Purdy

The children will have time to read, share, recommend and discuss texts and make book reviews on their iPads

 

Digital Leaders

The digital leaders work with Mr Thoburn to promote technology across the curriculum and make it accessible to all.

Chess Club

Run by Year 6 pupils

Come and learn the rules of chess! Enjoy playing games online and in person.

 

Craft Club

Years 1 and 2

Run by Year 6 pupils

Would you like to learn some new skills? Then come to Craft club where our Year 6 experts will teach you origami and other crafting skills.

 

Football

Year 2

Newcastle United Foundation

The children will have the opportunity to practise their football skills with Newcastle United Foundation.

 

Choir

KS2

Mr Thoburn and Miss Forster

The children practise singing songs and will have the opportunity to sing at different venues.

 

Football Club

Year 3

NUFC Foundation

The children will have the opportunity to practise their football skills with Newcastle United Foundation.
