Recycling through school!
Mon 31 Oct 2022Thank you to our parents, carers and community for donating unwanted clothing, bags, shoes and accessories to our on-site recycling bin. It has helped raise money for school and reduce UK landfill waste!

Year 5 black history week
Fri 21 Oct 2022Year 5 have had a fascinating week learning all about the Windrush Generation.
The children learned all about the Caribbean countries where the Empire Windrush ship brought people over from to help rebuild Britain after WW2.
They also learned about who the Windrush Generation people were and how they were treated when they arrived into Britain.
Finally, they created a piece of artwork to represent all of their learning.

Year 6 Celebration Assembly
Fri 21 Oct 2022Well done to Year 6 who told us all about their residential to Ford Castle in our celebration assembly.
It was great to hear about all of the achievements and team work that happened.
Our Year 5 children are looking forward to a residential next year.

Black History Week
Fri 21 Oct 2022Black History Week has been amazing! Thank you to everyone. All year groups have tackled some difficult questions in a thoughtful, mature and open-minded way. The quality of history knowledge from reading primary and secondary sources, has been particularly impressive. Please enjoy a selection of the children’s responses. All year groups are creating Art work to summarise their learning - I will post this following the half term holiday, once it has all been finished.

Black History Week Storytelling
Fri 21 Oct 2022Years 1-6 were lucky enough to watch a live stream from an international storyteller Len Cabral. He retold some exuberant African, Cape Verdean and Caribbean folktales, as well as original stories and tales from around the world.
We enjoyed listening to him tell the stories as well as find out more information about him in the questions and answers part.

Scavenger Hunts

Black History Week
Wed 19 Oct 2022This week we are celebrating Black History Month at Westerhope. Key Stage 1 children are busy learning about significant individuals from around the world. Lower Key Stage 2 have been using David Olusoga’s book Black and British to learn about the history of Black people in Britain. Upper Key Stage 2 are busy learning about the Windrush generation. Please see a selection of work from different year groups so far.

Summer Reading Challenge
Wed 19 Oct 2022WOW!!!! We came 2nd in the Summer Reading Challenge out of 79 schools in Newcastle and were rewarded with a brilliant trophy! We are so proud of our children’s love of reading.
